Celebrating Pride Month 2018

July 21, 2018

Alyse Galvin, Independent Candidate Seeking the Democratic Nomination for Congress in Alaska, Today Made the Following Statement in Support of LGBTQ+ Pride Month Which is Being Celebrated Across Alaska This June:

“Pride month in Alaska exemplifies great aspects of our state: diverse, strong, passionate, inclusive, and united. Alaskans have made great strides in LGBTQ+ equality over the last ten years. From the group that challenged outdated laws and championed marriage equality to striking down the transphobic ‘bathroom bill’ this past year, people across the state have shown that they will fight for equality. While Pride offers a month filled with festivities and rainbow flags, it is important to recognize that it also creates a wonderful opportunity to discuss and celebrate the LGBTQ+ rights movement and its accomplishments. As a state, I know that we recognize the diversity that the rainbow flag represents and the struggles our friends and family members have gone through in order to raise that flag high.

“As a lifelong Alaskan, I have witnessed these amazing changes that already benefit so many in the last frontier. With that being said, there is still more work to do. We are a nation founded on the basic principle that all are created equal. As your representative, I will give all Alaskans a voice at the national table and I will challenge all those who wish to infringe on the rights of residents based on their personal identity. It is my belief that regardless of who you are or who you choose to love, you deserve the right to liberty, freedom, and the equal access to a prosperous life.”
