Alyse Galvin Endorsed by Painters' Union
August 27, 2018
(ANCHORAGE, AK) -- Today, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 5 and Local 1959, announced their endorsement of Independent Alyse Galvin for Congress. District Council 5 is an organization of painters, decorators, wallcoverers, drywall finishers, sign painters, metal polishers, bridge and structural steel painters, civil service painters, lead abatement workers, carpet and soft tile layers, truck painters, glaziers, architectural metal and glass workers, paint makers and allied trades covering the states of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Utah and Northern Idaho. They are an affiliate of the Alaska AFL-CIO.
“Workers are being asked to produce more and more, corporations are taking more of their share in profits and wages aren’t keeping up. That needs to change,” Galvin said. “I know that I am going to Congress to work for the people of Alaska -- not for big corporations. People are tired of the partisan bickering. They just want someone who will get things done.”
“The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 5 and Local 1959 are proud to endorse and support Alyse Galvin for US Congress,” said Bronson Frye and Charlie Young of Local 1959 in Alaska. “Alyse will fight for working people and their families. Please join us in working to elect her.”
Alyse Galvin is a mom, a lifelong Alaskan, a community leader, and a former small business owner. A tireless advocate for education, she spent the last five years as a leader of Great Alaska Schools organizing parents, students, educators, and community leaders to protect public schools from massive budget cuts.
Galvin has been endorsed by NEA-Alaska, United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1496, End Citizens United and The Alaska Center. On Tuesday, August 21st, she won the Alaska Democratic Primary with 54% of the vote against three other candidates.
Galvin will face incumbent Rep. Don Young in the general election on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
