Alyse Galvin Endorsed by International Organization of Masters, Mates, and Pilots

August 28, 2018

(ANCHORAGE, AK) -- The International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots (MM&P) today announced their endorsement of Independent Alyse Galvin for Congress. MM&P is the marine division of the International Longshoremen’s Association and an affiliate of the Alaska AFL-CIO.

“The workers in Alaska’s maritime industries, including our ferry system, are critical to our economy and national security. They need a Representative who will fight for them -- including taking a stand against the Trump administration’s harmful policies that are killing jobs in Alaska,” Galvin said. “I’m running for Congress because I am going  to work for the people of Alaska -- not for big corporations. People are tired of the partisan bickering. They just want someone who will get things done.”

“We are proud to endorse Alyse Galvin for Congress,” said Don Marcus, President of MM&P. “Alyse is committed to the rights of our workers and to a strong, viable maritime economy in Alaska and beyond. We look forward to helping her win in November.”

Alyse Galvin is a mom, a lifelong Alaskan, a community leader, and a former small business owner. A tireless advocate for education, she spent the last five years as a leader of Great Alaska Schools organizing parents, students, educators, and community leaders to protect public schools from massive budget cuts.

Galvin has been endorsed by NEA-Alaska, United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1496, End Citizens United, The Alaska Center and the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District 5/Local 1959. Last week, she won the Alaska Democratic Primary with 54% of the vote against three other candidates.

Galvin will face incumbent Rep. Don Young in the general election on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
